Chris Landeros holding on to a ps3 slim for jailbreaking

This article is currently in the brain-dump stage. I’ll be adding observations and resources here as I find them, then I’ll come back later and flesh out a full article. Or at least I hope I do lol

I worked on a project to jailbreak a ps3 so that I can load a bunch of games on it and donate it to the library. These notes list the issue I ran into and the thought process behind how I got around the errors. Video of the completed project coming soon!

I Finally jailbroke the ps3. Multiman is installed. I’m tired. Im go to sleep.

edit: I got this error during my attempt.

Code
Error: 0x80010005 – Failure to allocate 0x1300000 buffer from browser container.

The fix is to reset your ps3 and clear all the cache and cookies, web browser, you know the deal.

More info can be referenced here: Ps3xploit website not working.

Now all I have to do is add the games. I’m gonna do isos. Wish me luck.

edit: Fck so close, I was able to get it download Gran Turismo 5. But now I have a error:

Code
80022d861D

Not out of the woods yet.

I’ve gone down the rabbit hole to find the best method to play games on the ps3. I’ve been pretty confused with all the lingo but I think I got it.

ISOs: These are game files ripped from the DVDs of the games themselves. As such, the playstation uses emulation in order to pretend like the disk is installed so someone can play. From what I understand, this is the way to do so when trying to add in mods. Disks tend to run mods the best so this would be the way to go.

PKG: These are downloaded files that require a license key in order to play. You can find these packages alongside their license keys (often referred to as

.rap files that can be found on the Myrient site. https://myrient.erista.me/files/No-Intro/Sony%20-%20PlayStation%203%20%28PSN%29%20%28Content%29/

The last alternative I was able to uncover is the PKGi files.

These are files, much like PKGs, that already come with the license. My assumption is because they’re downloaded directly through the play station store. There are two methods I’m aware of that I’m aware of that allow for the Jailbroken Ps3 to do this.

Im going to take a break from this as I’m tired.

…

10:46pm. We went with the File Transfer method. It’s funny, I remember initiating this for my website design class in college. Ended up dropping out of that class to take oncogenesis.

We went with the OG, File Zila. I have the link for the silicon Macs

https://filezilla-project.org/download.php?type=client

Now I’m downloading the ISOs for Alien v. Predator and Army of Two. Turns out you can download the files from Vimm’s liar at https://vimm.net/.

The biggest caveat is that this website takes forever to download files from and doesn’t allow you to download multiple files at once.

The two methods that work:

So far we’re doing two methods:

The File Transfer method takes long as the game files I’m using for AVP are JB Folder files. AKA JailBreak files. From what I can tell, it looks like the entire file for the game, with sub folder for assets like character models, subtitles, game cover for the game, etc. What I also noticed is the last file takes the longest to upload. Not sure if that’s specific to this game or a quirk for all JB Folder files.

Contrast to the USB method, it didn’t take long to upload either the ISO or JB Folder version of Army of Two. The file was ≈4.5 GB and only took about 5 minutes to upload.

… Wait, oh my god. The file transfer was successful. I refreshed the Game section and do see Aliens vs Predator on my HDD within multi man!! I verified the permissions by selecting the game in multiman. My XMB (PS3 main menu page) just loaded up. The game disc is showing!

It just asked me to update the game. I went ahead and did it. Apparently I can risk getting caught my Sony. So the next thing I should do is sign out and log into my other account. Then add a spoof.

Regardless, success!
